THE VINE | EDITORIAL DESIGN
This project entailed attending an event about Catherine the Great at Fairfield University. After attending, the students were tasked with creating an introduction page to the entertainment section (The Vine) of the university newspaper that dealt with the event. Once this was completed, they were to design the layout of the article based on what the reporter wrote.
DESIGN CHALLENGES | FORM
For this challenge, students had to express a word using only basic shapes and black & white colors. Emphasis was on making meaning through abstract forms rather than literal interpretations. Words featured below included, crowded (1&2), divide (3), bounce (4).

For this challenge, students had to create a minimalist movie poster of their choosing. They could use any number of colors they wanted, but couldn’t use photography.

FORM POSTERS
These were posters created by former students of mine while teaching design 1. The assignment was for them to create a poster only using squares, triangles or circles. They were limited to black and white for colors and could pick between their choice of two typefaces.
FREDDY’S FAMOUS BBQ | LOGO DESIGN
These were logos created by former students of mine while teaching design 1. The assignment was to create a logo based off of the rib shack featured in the TV show, House of Cards.
MATT HARRISON | PORTFOLIO SITE
This was a portfolio site created by one of my former students while he was taking my intro to web design class. His design offered a bold color selection with easy to digest chunks of information that let his work really shine through. Main elements taught were HTML and CSS.
UNDERGROUND DELI | WEBSITE REDESIGN
This project challenged students to redesign an existing website. In this case, the website was for a local deli that was on the college campus. The project required them to create a new logo as well as redesigning the home page and a menu page that had to have a minimum of five items featured.
